Diwan Halab
We did not present the dishes as menu items. We placed them within moments worth experiencing.
This case study features three selected designs from a broader body of work created by Matrix for Diwan Halab, connecting food with timing, emotion, and the dining experience.
THE CHALLENGE
How can an appetising dish become a moment the audience wants to experience?
The challenge was to present Middle Eastern dishes beyond conventional food imagery, giving each design an idea that extended beyond the item and its ingredients.
THE DECISION
We began with the moment that gives the dish meaning.
Each design approached desire from a different angle: lunchtime, the comfort of a familiar dish, and the experience of enjoying a meal at the restaurant. Food became part of a moment the audience could imagine themselves in, rather than an isolated product within the composition.
THE ROLE OF EACH DESIGN
The Grills — The clock became part of the composition, connecting the mixed grills directly to lunchtime and the anticipation of taking a break to enjoy them.
The Stuffed Vine Leaves — Presented from above between two hands, the dish became part of a warm, intimate scene that reflected familiarity and authentic preparation.
The Lunch Experience — The human presence placed the dish within a real dining moment, positioning Diwan Halab as a place to experience—not simply a menu to choose from.
THE RESULT
The collection presented food through three distinct entry points: timing, emotion, and experience, while maintaining a consistent visual world for Diwan Halab.
We did not only create desire for the dish.
We created desire for the entire moment.
